ASL AND INTERPRETER SERVICES

Service Overview

If you do not speak English as your primary language, have limited ability to read, speak, or understand English, or if you are deaf or hard of hearing and use American Sign Language (ASL), you may qualify for language assistance.

MCCMH provides interpreters for all non-English languages at no cost. These services make it easier to understand Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan (PIHP) documents, learn about your benefits, and communicate about your care. We may also offer other interpreter services for health-related needs when reasonable and approved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make a phone call to MCCMH if I don’t speak English?

If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can use the Michigan Relay Center (MRC) to reach MCCMH or your provider. Just call 7‑1‑1 and ask the MRC to connect you to the number you need.

All MCCMH offices also offer phone interpreters, so you can speak in your own language. Your call may be placed on hold for a short time while we connect you to an interpreter.

Can I have documents translated into my spoken language?

Important documents that have already been translated will be provided to individuals with limited English proficiency for free. All other requests for language assistance must be sent by Customer Service or your Supports Coordinator, Case Manager, or Therapist to the Civil Rights Coordinator for approval.

Additionally, all MCCMH offices also offer phone interpreters, so you can speak in your own language. Your call may be placed on hold for a short time while we connect you to an interpreter.
